Pixelism...

Soulcookie.com has been flashing photos from his fancy new camera around the office lately and recently showed me a set from an art opening Palo Alto. Let me stress, most of his photos will catch your eye, but these not only look good, they leave you amazed at the art behind the art.

The opening was held in a coffee shop and displayed the work of Zak Akin. My initial reaction was the art on the walls seemed pixelated. Most in the digital world know pixelation comes from expanding images beyond their size. But as Kevin, a.k.a. Soulcookie explained, Zak is taking a blank canvas and painting it pixel by pixel. So the blur I see in the photos reflects a real painting of a pixelated image. Crazy huh!

Want to hear something more crazy, he did a self-portrait in pez. Needless to say, I'm taking my butt over to Palo Alto to check out his work.
